Most words that start with No are refusals. Non- means not, and it fronts 653 of the 1,055 words here, from nonstop to nonnegotiable. The other 402 have nothing to do with negation, and note, north, nozzle and nostalgia only share the same two opening letters. That split governs how you play a No rack. The non- words are where the length is, and the short ones are where the points are.

No Or Non: Which One Is The Prefix
Non- is a prefix. No- is not.
Non- descends from Latin non, meaning not, and it attaches to a complete word to reverse it. Nonstop is stop with non- in front. Nonfiction is fiction reversed. Nonsense is sense negated. Strip the non- and a real English word remains every time.
No- does not work that way. Take the first two letters off note, north, nozzle or nostalgia and nothing usable is left. Those words simply begin with N and O, in the way that nose and nomad do.
| Non- as a prefix | No as the opening letters |
|---|---|
| Nonstop | Note |
| Nonsense | North |
| Nonfiction | Nozzle |
| Nonprofit | Nostalgia |
| Nonverbal | Nomad |
| Nontoxic | Notch |
The test takes one step. Remove the first three letters and read what is left. Stop, sense, fiction and profit are all words, so the prefix is non-. Te, rth and zzle are not, so there is no prefix at all.

FAQs
The ones you will recognise straight away are note, north, nobody, normal, nothing, notice, noble, noise, nomad and November. Around thirty more occur in ordinary reading, among them nostril, notion, novice, notary and nourish.
No, and this is the point most word lists get wrong. The prefix is non-, from Latin non, and it attaches to a whole word to reverse it. Words such as note, north and nozzle simply begin with the letters N and O.
Non- means not, and it reverses whatever word follows it. Nonstop means without stopping, nonfiction means not fiction, and nonprofit means returning no earnings to owners. Around 653 of the words here take it.
Noble, noisy, nomadic, notorious, nonchalant and nondescript all describe a person. Noble and nonchalant read as compliments, while notorious and nondescript do not.
